Our rental costs have never been included in our tax returns.

Steve

Hello i don't think this would be taken into account doing your tax returns as resident.. its like monthly payments if you have a mortgage.   just my opinion but i don't think so.

"Just out of interest how did you find somewhere to rent did you have a recommendation or have you used an agent?"

We found the advertisement for our apartment in a local estate agents who had a selection of long term rentals.

Steve

Hi Steve... thanks for that so when we are at the point of sale we could look round the estate agents... everything seems to be falling into place lol... just need to sell now... regards  Linda.

Re renting in Spain as a resident, are monthly rent payments taken into account when resident taxes are calculated does anyone know please ?

I get a discount. The rent I pay is included in my annual declaration under deducciones. The owner's DNI is on there as well with the amount paid to him as he has to declare the rent received.

Any person that you meet may give you information regarding a property in Spain, rental or sale. Up to you what you do with the info. Good luck.

There are also property sections in the local newspapers that list long term rentals.

Hi, I used Google  Search. Simply enter "Long term rentals in ......." and include where you would like to live. I have been here for 14 years and am about to move to my third property, this one in Calpe. This one and the first one were rented through an agent, found on the search. I have had no problems at all with them. The second one was rented directly from the owner and it was a nightmare and I left after 18 months and have still not had my security deposit returned. I would suggest using an agent is best. I have haggled over the rental price and have always got it for less than advertised. Once you start a search you will find threads to other sites. It's a renter's market and there are hundreds of properties to rent in most areas. Good luck, I think you are making the right choice. Take care and stay safe.

Hi thank you for your reply... its good to hear everyone's different experiences, i have thought about  renting direct from the owner and your experience has confirmed what i thought that maybe going through an agent would be better.  I know people have rented from owners directly and have not had the experience you have had but better to be save than sorry.

I will do as you have suggested, once we have a buyer we can start to look around, i must say i am quite looking forward to the change of lifestyle... no going back now i have started to sell off loads of things i will not need so will need somewhere   fully furnished.

Many thanks  Linda.
