Use the link to find your nearest branch, I'm sure there are 2 banks with slightly different names.

We didn't need to buy any products, the guy said we'd need to pay €60 for the account. He said its not a payment but a deposit and we would get it back if we closed the account. It has never been taken.

I found a Cajamar brach in Zenia Boulevard which charged me 65 cents to use the cash machine but the branch is San Miguel De Salinas does not charge. This is what makes me think the are 2 companies or 2 divisions of the bank.

We've had the account for a year and paid no charges.

Cheers, we have an appointment today at San Miguel and the guy there seems really helpful. Hes advised that we open a Auto Gestion account which is the same as Pack Weferrent but with the Auto Gestion account we are able to call into the bank for help if needed. There's just one yearly charge of 18 euros for the use of a card to withdraw cash at their ATMS. This account also as no commission or service charges. If this is ok then we just need to move our direct dedits over. Keeping our fingers crossed!!!

I'm sure it'll go well. Again, I think there's more than 1 branch up there which is odd for a fairly small town.

The guy we dealt with was great, really helpful - Javier Garcia Vaillo.

If you're going into Iberdrola office to change your direct debit over, print off the "certificate of ownership" which is a document to prove you own the account. You might need it as well as all the usual stuff - passport, NIE. I'm sure they'll print one off for you.

Thanks for that. We went into the bank on the main street and spoke to Javier Garcia Vaillo, he's really helpful. I would recommend anyone who is thinking of changing banks to speak with him. We are just waiting for our P60 to complete everything. You mention "certificate of ownership" , is this from the bank? or Iberdrola? Again thank you for all your help , we appreciate the time youve taken.

If you download the app for Cajamar and set up digital banking you can download the certificate in the app and probably if you just log in on the Web too. It proves you own the bank account.

Different customers seem to receive varying replies. I tried to open a Wefferent account onlline having been told at the Pilar branch that it must be done that way.  - no such account can be opened in a branch. The information  required includes NIF number or Residencia card number. As a foreigner I have NIE which is rejected. Also rejected was my residencia number per my new card. I expect that Spanish residencia cards are numbered or designated differently so that a number from a foreigners card is immediately rejected. I telephoned the premium help line but after several minutes they had not picked up. Oh what fun!.

Yes i agree. I could not open a Wefferent account because i also only have a NIE number. So i visited the branch in San Miguel and opened a Auto Gestion. BUT be aware on opening this account we were told at the LAST meeting that we had to buy into the Bank , ie become a member and this meant we had to leave a deposit of 1037 Euros. This deposit info was also mentioned by another member on this site. This is the minimum amount you have to leave in or you will have to pay a monthly commission. There is also an initial setting up charge of 18 Euros for a cash card. Providing you use the card for more than 45 transactions then there is no yearly charge of 30 Euros. Hope this extra info helps others to decide before making any changes

My experience in El Campello was completely different. Following a recommendation by Paulsav on this forum, and having lousy experience with Bankia, we wanted to open a Wefferent joint account as a non-residents. I had previously been advised that this could only be achieved by visiting a branch. I visited the local branch last Thursday, explained my requirements and they gave us an appointment for the following day. I have a little Spanish but the lady I dealt with spoke reasonable English. We were advised to bring passports, national (UK) tax ID (we took official copies of our National Insurance number letter - downloadable from HMRC website), NIE, P60 and proof of sources of income (my wife showed details of her NHS pension, I showed proof of private pension/investments). All the form filling and signing was completed in about 30 minutes and we were each given a slip of paper with temporary user names and passwords to allow us to access the Cajamar web site and app so that we could then order the Wefferent account online.

We had an issue in that the default address for delivery of the debit cards was our UK home address whereas we had understood that we would have the cards delivered to the local branch or our Spanish address. We also needed a correction to our home postcode. We therefore re-visited the branch and the assistant made the necessary corrections, ordered the Wefferent account for us. Gave us a card containing the IBAN and BIC numbers and told us that the cards would be at the branch within 4 working days. We where then able to lodge money in the account and set up relevant direct debits. All in all a pleasant experience. We wanted totally free banking, the Wefferent account appears to provide this and yet allows you to visit the branch should you need and only be charged for the month in which you visit (€7 I think). Providing the cards appear on Monday next, this will have been a good experience. I will post this separately together with my experience of opening a N.26 account which was also extremely easy.

I think each Cajamar Rural bank appear to do things slightly different. We are happy with our set up and glad that we no longer use Bankinter who were charging us as no-residents 198 Euros just for service and maintenance charges. We also now have a Cajamar debit card and providing we use it more than 45 times per annum then its free.
