Merger with Bankia and Caixa Bank
Any issues yet for you on the merger between Bankia and Caixa?
Any issues yet for you on the merger between Bankia and Caixa?
We had to go into Caixa last week and were told we had to make an appointment to make some updates to our account. At the appointment we were told that the yellow debits cards would, in future, incur higher costs so we were advised we needed to change to a credit/debit card, as would everyone else. I really don't know what this entails or how it will work so will have to ask a few questions when we collect the new cards. We don't want credit cards or a loan and wouldn't change our insurance to them so the advisor wasn't very happy with us.

Technogranny the answer is yes. We arrived in Spain in the middle of September knowing that we had to present ourselves to a Bankia branch to verify our identities for money laundering purposes. Went to our nearest branch and stood in line for half and hour only to be told we had to go to the branch where the account was opened, 50kilometers away. Went there to be confronted with a notice telling us we needed a previously booked appointment. However after a lot of bell ringing we were admitted. We presented our documents (passports, NIE numbers and bank passbook) only to be informed that they needed to see our P60's and proof of legal income. Back home to arrange this with offices in the UK. Emails duly arrived with this information. Equipped with my Ipad we travelled the 50 kilometres to the branch only to be told that they didn't require to see them they needed copies. The wifi in the branch couldn't accept the information from my Ipad, so 50 kilometres back up the road to email them the info. That night it was confirmed that our account had been unblocked. Next day down to the local branch to try and withdraw money from our account only to find it was still blocked. Rang the doorbell continuosly, because we didn't have a previous appointment, to attract the attention of staff. One came to the door, took my passport and bank book and disappeared inside the airconditioned branch and left us standing outside in the heat. 20 minutes later returned to tell us all was now well. Tried our cards and indeed the account was unblocked. However since returning to the UK I have found that my online banking is still blocked and I cannot access the account. No way of telling if there is sufficient funds for DD's or if they are being paid at all. Its an absolute shambles and I will be transferring out of this bank as soon as humanly possible.

I agree and thank goodness our Bankia branch is nearby, I dont have issues at the moment at on my laptop I can access with a passport number and password, as soon as the merger takes place on Monday, I have an appointment at the my branch to go through and see on the screen the steps to access my account, and if possible could they email me a statement each month. I brought with me copies of our documents with us from the uk as I had read this on the websites that they were asking for proof of income, even though we are pensioners. I hope you can get sorted its a nighmare and I had issues with non res tax, a mobile phone stolen, a fall and our car being bashed in from the back. So all in all its not been a good visit. Regards

Yes....we spent 2 hours in bankia just trying to draw money from the cash machine!!
The genius behind the bankia/caixa merger forgot to mention the magnetic strip on you card wont work in the new software in the caixa cash machines......brilliant !!
We had to join a very long queue of people with similar problems who had been told they need a new card which would take 7 days to get one, like ourselves nobody had any money so we had no alternative but to wait!! As if that wasn't bad enough when we did get to see someone they tried to update minor details on our account and tried to sell services such as insurance whilst the queue was still growing........unbelievable!!

So so sorry its not a good situation I would if I was you, write to the bank's president outlining the failures of the systems that they had put in place.
I keep saying this (as an ex victim of Bankia/Caixa merciless money grabbing) - why does anyone stay with this greedy, incompetent, over bureaucratic, antiquated banking system? No surprise they had financial issues and had to be bailed out a while ago. There are so many excellent online banks now, with minimal charges, maximum efficiency, and international money skills.
