Could anyone please offer some advice regarding transferring money from Spain to my UK bank account. I would like to transfer a lump sum from my Sabadell account to my British bank account. I have not yet enquired with Sabadell how much such a transaction would cost, I am hoping that perhaps someone has already gone through a similar process and could therefore offer some advice based on their experience.

Don’t use your bank it will cost you a lot more than transferring via a currency dealer such as Wise.

There are a lot of people on here that use them for money transfers to and from Spain.

As stated do not use bank as they say that there's no charge but give you a low exchange rate eg I sent 130K from UK to Spain and the difference was over 2600 euros, I did it through wise but there plenty of other options.

I also recommend Wise to transfer money. The bank will want a lot of money to transfer.

Yes, use wise.  Transfer euro to your  wise account. Do the exchange and then transfer GBP to your bank account.

Here is my recent experience Hew.

I have on line banking  with Sabadell.

A couple of weeks ago, I  transferred euros from my Sabadell account to my UK account using Moneycorp.  The euros were transferred under Sabadells on line National transfer option in to a euro account of Moneycorps Madrid account and in turn onwards in GBPs into my UK account.

All went well.

HOWEVER you will need to find out what YOUR daily maximum Sabadell withdrawal limit  currently stands at. Also what THEY (Sabadell) will charge YOU to even make a withdrawal/transfer OUT of your account !!!!!!

On speaking to them I was told a maximum of 30,000 was my daily limit. However this would incur a fee of 116 euros just to take it OUT of my account.

I then discovered  that 15000 euros was a daily free of charge withdrawal up to a maximum limit of 50K a month.

When you do the transaction on line there will be three options for you to chose for cost.  Each one will give you the cost of the transaction. One option gave the immediate withdrawal cost.  The middle option states the withdrawal takes between one to three days.

I found that doing a daily transfer in the morning, under the middle option,  it went in to Madrid account I was sending it to, that same day but not if it was on a Friday.  Arrived in the Madrid account I was sending it to on the Monday

You will therefore need to work out, depending on how much you wish to take out, the best way forward as to when to carry out the transactions required

Hope this is of some help to you

Stephanie, thank you for the details, extremely informative and helpful. I had no idea that Sabadell charged just to withdraw your own money from your account. I would imagine that would apply irrespective of which transfer agency you used. So well worth knowing, thanks.

Yes Hew.

I had to pay out a sum of 20 euros recently locally.  No cost if you take the 2nd option of 1 to 3 day transfer. It was actually done the following day.   But 95c if I wanted the transfer to be immediate.

We gave always used Currencies Direct, they are very good, fast , their telephone helpline us excellent.

We used them to transfer UK funds to Spain for our house purchase originally.
