Car tax is chargeable to the person who owned the car on Jan 1st, so you won't yourself get a bill this year.

Our bills came out a couple of weeks ago and the direct debits were taken 10th April, but the payment period may differ between different areas.

Your problem is ensuring the bill is paid. That might well not be due by the dealer, but the original owner, as dealers don't normally transfer to their own ownership because of the transfer tax involved.

As Jim says it would not be yourself who is due to pay the Tax, you can check at the Suma Office if it has been paid and if not go back to the dealership and ask that they get it sorted either by paying it themselves or by the former owner.

Hopefully someone in your area will say when they receive notification from SUMA.

If that's before now, or nobody responds, I suggest visiting your nearest SUMA office, which in your case would be Pablo Picasso, 1 Entlo, Playa Flamenca, just off the N332.

That would be a good opportunity to check they have your address correct, and to set up a direct debit for future years.

Can I just get this clear, if a car passes its ITV in one region it isn't valid in another? There are companies in England selling Spanish registered cars, so if I was to buy one and drive it over I might have to have the ITV done again, in the region I'm travelling to? I'm currently trying to decide whether to buy a Spanish car to bring over or buy and English one then try to sell or part ex it in Spain.

Thanks Pete it's a minefield isn't it, I've got an NIE and we own a house in Monovar, I'm leaning more towards bringing over a British car and seeing if I can part ex it as I imagine there will be a market for British cars for people returning.

Hi Pete

We purchased our car from one of the garages on the N332 CABO Roig March2018 this is the first we have heard of thePCD can we just go along to Traffics with all the documents and request and pay for one as we have never been given one. To start with.

Ray - read my guide that Pete gave you the link for - that tells you what to do if you genuinely haven't got the documents.

I honestly don't believe you haven't got the Permiso and Tarjeta. Check again, as they're only small pieces of lightweight card or paper.

From what you've said, I assume the dealer must have done the transfer of the vehicle to your name. If he didn't, then you've got problems.

Start with the dealer.
