Hi Terry,

La Zenia is ok if you like pubs I walk there from Playa Flamenca often, if you are single just start talking to either males or females and your ok. Therei is a big Irish community of advanced age that reside there (less in the winter) but it depends what your into.

Hey Terry, I plan on retiring to Gran Canaria, mainly for the weather. We should chat about your experiences :-) good look in mainland Spain maybe you should be a renter for a while?

Hi Terry,

I think La Zenia, and also Playa Flamenca, which is next door are very good areas for single people. There are lots of single men and women here. It should be easy to make friends as most urbanisations have a cluster of bars/restaurants located nearby. There are many places to choose from. The majority of places are open all year, and having spent 15 Xmas & New Year holidays in Maspalomas, I can honestly say that you have a lot more choice of bars etc. here, and the entertainment is really good. There are plenty of shops, and the golf courses are a 10 minute drive away. My husband and I moved here from the UK two years ago and are very glad that we did. I suggest that you have a good walk around, and ask plenty of questions. People are only too pleased to help, as it's a very friendly area. The weather is pretty good too!

Good luck.

The only 2 hotels that I know of in the area are La Zenia Hotel. This is on the sea front and is a nice hotel. The other is the Orihuela Costa Resort Hotel. If you could get a private rental it would be cheaper. As you don't know the area, I would suggest La Zenia Hotel at first, then go for a private rental near to the exact area you fancy living in. By the way, eating out is so cheap here, you will notice a vast difference to the prices in Gran Canária. When you get here, buy a Costa Blanca News and pick-up the many free papers around. That will tell you what is going on and where. We live in Playa Flamenca and are a short walk to La Zenia Boulevard. Also we are a 10 minute walk to the urbanisation La Florida, where there is a supermarket, bars with good entertainment and a couple of other shops. I would strongly suggest that you take a look there. It takes a while to find out where everything is but there is a lot going on once you are familiar with the area. Whatever your lifestyle, you should find what suits you.
