We will shortly have our possessions moved to Spain from the UK. Will these goods be subjected to import duties?

Unless you are moving to Spain as a permanent resident you will have to pay import duties on your possessions.

Seems somewhat unfair to me as things can be many years old but you still have to declare a value for all items as a whole.

Normally the duty has to be paid before the transport company will bring the items over.

Thanks for your reply.

We are moving to Spain on a permanent basis so hopefully the import duty will not apply.

Yep..

A pal of mine moved over recently

i Think you have to give over your visa number to negate the duty charges

good luck

As long as the items do not appear brand new , you should be ok.  Anything you think might attract attention , try dig up a proof of purchase …..items should be older than 6 months and in used condition .

Thanks for your reply.  The goods will be arriving on a removal lorry so I'm not sure how condition and age of goods will be determined.

They can ask for the van & boxes to be opened for inspection.

Any shipment requires customs declarations

I had my house contents moved from the UK (Wokingham) to Spain in July 2021. The removal company sorted all the paperwork (including a full inventory when packing etc) and there wasn't any surprises! I don't know what extra paperwork there might have been in the background but all went to plan with no additional costs.

Hope this helps and Christmas Wishes to you & yours!
