If you keep your UK car in Spain for over 6 months, you need to re-register it here. This can be quite costly, depending on the value, age and pollution rating of your car (and you need to get the headlamps replaced/adjusted for LHD prior to obtaining the Spanish version of the MOT).

RHD cars are generally a bit inconvenient to use here .... some junctions are a bit awkward and car park barriers/toll roads a pain if you are driving alone.

Used cars are more expensive here then in the UK. New cars are about the same price.

The company below can advise on the cost of re-registering your UK car in Spain. Then you can decide if it is worth it or not.

Worth remembering that RHD cars aren't worth much in Spain.

We’ve just gone through all of this I spent months looking on eBay for left hand drive second me hand cars as Spain second hand car market is bonkers price wise.

I was looking for cars with less that 120 pollution as they have no import duty. However I stumbled across the fact that if you head inland and away from the tourist places you can still buy second hand cars at a good price. I got a 2014 Dacia Sandero with 30,000 kms for just €4,600 which is equivalent to U.K. it’s just a villa car we won’t be moving over for a while.

We decided against RHD due to the issues mentioned above toll roads a pain, drive thru pain, junctions a pain and higher insurance seems bonkers to be honest and I’m never sure why people do it.

Personally if you can afford new or nearly new I would sell and buy over here.
