Hi everybody

Could someone give me a real and accurate cost of how much it would cost for me to change my car over to a Spanish plate. I have a Honda crv 2.2 diesel 06 plate and I'm just waying up the pros and cons of bringing it over and hiring a car in spain when I'm here. I intend to be over for 5 months a year in the near future. We are in the villamartin are and I have had vast difference in prices off people. Anybody done it recently.

It's not a fixed price scenario so nobody can give you what you're asking for.

One immediate downside I can tell you of is with the introduction of emission zones all over the country you'll find that a 2006 diesel will not qualify for a sticker permitting it to enter most of them.

Flog it and buy something in Spain would be my advice.

If you're determined then contact www.spanish-number-plates.com

Many thanks darro it was just an option but appreciate your reply. Probably best selling g it in the UK and investing the money into a 2nd hand car in spain and save the expense

Hi,

you should get a quote on how much it would cost to bring over before deciding. The cost of secondhand cars here is high and at least you know the history of your Honda. The emissions controls are not likely to have much impact for some time yet and initially will be limited to a few areas in large towns and cities.

Aitch.

We bought a small third hand Hyundai about four years ago from a KIA dealership in Denia. They checked it thoroughly before letting me have it, changing brake pads and sorting a couple of other small problems. It cost roughly twice what we would have expected to pay in UK, it’s now eleven years old and apart from some to be expected deterioration of the inner dashboard plastic and so forth, we have had absolutely no problems with it. We needed it as we live miles out in the campo and I needed a car myself. I would always go to a professional dealer, whether a second hand specialist or a specific marque, as they will sort out all the paperwork and you should have minimal problems.

I agree with Aitch that the emissions issue will not significantly impact a non residential tourist, these zones locally have not been decided and when they are they are more likely to be in central Torrevieja.

Leigh did our Honda CRV (2005) a few years ago. We had to have new LHD headlights fitted and the wiring needed to be altered for the fog light. The total cost for everything, including car tax and fitting number plates, was 1400 euros. Worth it to us as we knew the car and it had been well maintained. You could save some money by sourcing your own headlights and wiring an additional fog light.

We'll probably keep the car for another few years and then buy a new Spanish car. New car prices in Spain are now nearly on par with prices in the UK. However, they don't appear to depreciate as quickly and 2nd hand cars in Spain are relatively expensive.

EDIT....One thing to watch for now is the new low emission controlled areas in Spain, especially driving a diesel. Our petrol has a cat 3 eco sticker which, currently, would allow access to some low emission areas.

Many thanks for your replies uch appreciated. I will make some enquiries when I'm over in summer and and do some sums see what works out best.

Many thanks
