a newer router will send a signal on both 2.4 & 5GHz however older type, phones, laptops, TVs, etc etc may not be capable of connecting to the 5 GHz signal.

If that’s the case…..I need to use 2.4GHz for a cctv camera I’m considering so I assume my 3 yr old router would probably be OK wouldn’t you think?

If you google the model number of the CCTV camera you will no doubt find if its 5 GHz compatible, most new routers put out a 2.4 and a 5 GHz signal, others just put out one signal that either 2.4 or 5GHz devices can connect to, plus if you connect other tech, laptops, phones, TV box etc to the router they may be 5 GHz compatible so it might be worth considering a new router. really depends what you intend running fom it.
