Hi

We are trying to recover money owed to us by a local builder who was due to be working on our property?

Has anyone got advice on who to contact regarding this?

Thanks

Firstly (without a solicitor)  a denuncia. Guarda Civil. Long-winded. Rarely an investigaton. Passed to the court. Then get in the (long queue). Secondly. Solicitor ( depending on size of claim) Thirdly. Own investigation, & find out if othes have suffered a similar experience. ( the more the "merrier") V.

Consult a solicitor for "small claims" oportunities. ( then consult another) free. Then decide. V.

I don’t know why people still pay up front for work?

Just use reputable people/builders.

If they say it’s for materials at least go to the merchants and pay for it direct and pay labour only in stages.

I’m sorry but I just don’t get it......pay on satisfactory completion.

I agree, we have had experience of some builders who say they need money for materials but have also dealt with others who have taken us to the Merchants when we were planning on getting tiling done, we have made our choice and paid the Merchant directly, then only paid the "tradesman" in stages as the work progressed and we were happy with the work being done. As with everything here in Spain it is vitally important to use you common sense and not be taken in by Cowboy operators.

If a contractor wanted money up front from me then they wouldn’t get the work, if they haven’t got credit with suppliers they aren’t worth employing , simples.

Very easy to get things done qhen you’re living here full time but not so easy trying to arrange things back in England!

As for using reputable builders, he was recommended by the people on this site!
