Non residents have to pay a non-resident tax amount on a yearly basis, usually has to be paid by Sept/Oct for the previous year, ie if you owned a property from 1st January 2019, the NR tax for the whole of that year 2019-2920 needs to be paid late in 2021. There is a calculation to work out the ...

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply.  That doesn't sound too bad at all, perfectly manageable that sort of money.

Brexit has certainly thrown a huge spanner in the works in terms of what type of property we will be looking at buying as it will have to be a second home so needs to be easy to manage and a good lock up and leave.

Be aware that you don't get billed - it's your responsibility to file a tax return. A lot of people are unaware of their responsibility and end up in arrears due to ignorance. Non payment of this tax is one of the main reasons for non resident bank accounts being embargoed which creates another whole set of headaches. I've used Andy Garcia from Spanish tax forms for the last couple of years and he's been great. Not expensive and very prompt.

Hi there, you will be liable for NR tax from 01-01-19 to 31-12-19, this tax should have been submitted late in 2020. You will now be overdue, first thing to do is get your return submitted - you don’t get notified by post, it is your responsibility to remember and arrange for this to be done.

There is a form entitled Modelo 210 which needs to be populated and sent to the authorities, it is apparently simple to do but as this is your first submission I would employ the services of a tax specialist company to do this for you. Last year I used Angar Taxation Service [email protected] who compiled the firm, added their cost of approx 20 euro per person and once you make a bank transfer to them they will make the payment for you.

Go on the internet and look for ANGAR TAXATION SERVICES and register your details with them, they will get back to you pretty promptly to get the ball rolling 👍

Hi John,

You are liable for tax from July 2019 to the end of the year. This should have been paid by the end of 2020.

I agree with previous posts that Angar taxation services ( Andy Garcia) are very efficient and trustworthy.

Wow how lucky are you that your bank was not embargoed. Again, get in touch with Andy he will sort this all out for you. All done via email.
