I have a holiday apartment in Mil Palmeras/Torre de la Horadada and I need home & contents insurance. Any recommendations for reputable and value for money providers ? Banks seem to be extortionate.

Hello Terry,

Here in Spain the insurance policies have both building and contents together in one, unlike in England.

When looking for house insurance for your holiday home, I recommend you have a look and see if they have what's called an "unoccupied period" if the company has this, becareful as they won't pay out in case of a claim if you are X amount of weeks/months outside of your home.

Another thing to conisder, is the liability insurance, as this will cover you in case you cause damage to your neighbour or third party. As you are liable to repair the damages done, this could be a costly repair, so if you have a good cover you won't have to pay out of your pocket for this accident. (I recommend a minumum of 600.000€ for this cover).

I wouldn't recommend you have any kind of insurance through the bank, as they will not help you in case of a claim (They will simply send you a number to ring, and you will have to deal with the company), or even to modify your insurance. Plus, they are most likely to be more expensive with less coverage.

Feel free send me a message if you would like more information or advice. I work in an Insurance agency through AXA (they don't have an unoccupied period).

Hope this helps!

Carefully read ALL the smallprint. Some insurers exclude liability if object is not permanently inhabitet or more than one lock muest be fitted to the main entrance door - be alert.
