Hi all,
Can anyone confirm if you need a notary to make your will legal in Spain?
If so any recommendations as lve been quoted 200 euro to do mine.

Yes, you need it notarised. I take it the 200 euro was from a solicitor? If you go direct to the notary they will charge around 60 to 80 euro for a simple will. If a sworn translation is required (and some areas only require a notary translation) then that cost will be added but will still be half what a solicitor requires.

Thank you, can you write your own will, the same as in England?
If you mean a will leaving what you like to whomever you like, your local cats home for example, no.
If you have property or other assets in Spain then they will be subject to Spanish forced inheritance rules so you need to have a will drawn up by someone who knows what they are doing.
A notary will not notorise a will which is not drawn up correctly.

The Spanish "Codigo Civil" specifies the various types of wills. However, I would strongly recommend a general will set up by a notary public and registered in the "Registro General de ultimas voluntades". Costs around 90,- alltogether. Do not include any assets not located in Spain.
