Hi Jon

A couple of months, Hidraqua and Iberdrola no issues so far.

Suma is only annually and community fees bi annually, these aren't due yet so can't comment but everything went smoothly so pretty confident that all will be ok.

Ken.

Great thanks

Hi,

I opened a Caixa bank account whilst over in Spain on 14th Feb just in case it was needed although am hoping not to use it and find a cheaper solution instead.

It is a Holabank living solutions account for non residents and I was told the fees are €8 per month or €24 per quarter. The account has not yet been used other than to fund it to cover fees.

However, they have already debited the following:

10th March - €8

4th April - €16

21 April - €8

Does anyone have any experience of this account and what might be going on?

I have written to them and asked for an explanation but they have not responded.

Meanwhile the search for a better solution goes on. N26 looked promising but no longer open to UK residents due to Brexit!

Thanks

Jon

I was under the impression if we own a property in Spain we have to have a Spanish Bank account? I have a La Caixa account and find it very expensive I use the app which is very good but dont really understand all the fees they seem to take. I used to have a.euro Llyods account but had lots of trouble when it was pointed out to me it was registered in Jersey. The bank.charges seem really high to.me.

I am in same position but think the Transferwise account is a way round it. Caixa seem to be charging me €16 for doing nothing other than receiving my deposits to cover their charges!

Hi Ken,

Me again! Just noticed a fee if I do a Euro to Euro payment from Transferwise to a recipient in Spain. Its only a small amount but have you noticed any fees with the DD's?

Hi Jon,

The Spanish bank charges are ridiculous, Bankinter were charging me €30 per quarter and all I had was 2 direct debits with them, they also insisted I held a minimum balance of €2500.

I have switched to N26 and now have no fees to pay.

Do you have a property in Spain (postal address) or a NIE number? You don't have to actually be a resident but do need the above.

J.

Hi Jon

There are small fees when you shuffle money around and of course bigger fees for bigger amounts but nothing like the banks.

I was in my Transferwise account this morning, so far 4 months of dd to utilities and definitely no fees.

There are no fees for running the account.

Hi J,

I looked into N26 but they are no longer accepting accounts for UK citizens/ residents even though I own property and have an NIE. Another Brexit bonus I presume.

I have learnt two things from this post that I had no previous idea about. That is N26 bank account and Transferwise.  Does anyone know  if I would have to set up my direct debits again if I open an N26 account and close the one with La Caixa?

Thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions.

I would expect you to have to do that. I don't think they operate bank switches like the UK.

Bear in mind N26 no longer open to UK residents.
