Thanks very much to everyone for the kind comments, and it's nice to know there are other people who also like good wood or craft work. The problem is getting nice wood like oak, as the only good supplier is up at Ontinyent.

Craig, I honestly don't know how many hours went into the basket, but quite a few. It's certainly not something I could complete in a day. Getting close enough to the cutting point to make sure I stay on the pattern lines becomes a strain on the eyes and back after a while, so I tend to do ...

...a bit and have a break. Incidentally, the blades are so thin that they fit in a 1 mm hole. I'm often working with my fingers only a few mm from the blade. Those of you who DIY will know the mantra 'measure twice, cut once'. That's modified for scrollsawing - it's 'measure twice, cut once, count fingers'.

I could do to sell some of them, as all surfaces are covering with Margaret's and my produce. The time taken, plus the capital cost of the scrollsaw itself, means I could never make a living from it, but I have made a few pieces to order in exchange for a bottle of whisky or a menu del diá. All I can say is make me an offer!

Grannyrose, if you'd heard the cursing that went on whilst I was doing the wool bowl, you wouldn't have been impressed. I'm glad I made something useful rather than purely decorative, but I wouldn't tackle another one.

I'll post a few more, but please tell me if you get fed up seeing them.

Would anyone like to see some of Margaret's work?

Hi jim yes please. Your work is magnificent youve gave ua all a lovely treat in these uncertain times please keep them comeing take care all the best

I love seeing and reading your posts as they are all written with a generous and good nature!  My real favourite was the story you wrote about the Yorkshire Tea Company. Would you consider posting it again for those who didn’t get to read it the first time?  I often think about you and wonder how you are doing since your beloved Margaret died. I sincerely hope you are coping as dealing with the loss of your “other half “is extremely difficult. Thankfully, you are an intelligent man so are able to put your mind to good use not to mention your ability to create some magnificent woodwork.

It has been good to see your posts popping up again.

Keep them coming,

All good wishes,

Grannyrose.

Hi Grannyrose

Unfortunately, you won’t be seeing any more of Jim’s posts. He has decided that he wants to concentrate on other pastimes, needing more of his time, and has therefore left the forum 🤪🥂

No, I cannot believe that. I am very sorry to hear this news but wish him well.

Thank you for taking the time to inform me.

Perhaps he will reconsider in a few months time as he will be greatly missed.

If you are in contact with him please tell him that I send my best wishes to him.

Regards,

Grannyrose.

Hi Yes, I have seen some of his stuff. Jim ( a forum member) after taking retirement,  migrated to Spain in 2005, principally for the weather, but he has said in order to avoid "PC" situation in the UK. A keen "do it yourself(er)" a trait inherited from his dad very much like my own & learned to knit, hang wallpaper, cook, etc. He has produced many helpful guides to living in Spain.
