Hi we're staying in the Hotel Bonalba for a few days next week whilst we're getting our stuff delivered to our new place.  Just wondering if anyone knows anywhere near the hotel where you can get gluten free food?  Any decent restos or places to have light lunch, sandwiches etc... As I've read mixed reviews about the hotel food, and they were a bit vague when I called about gluten free stuff (which is actually quite unusual in France), just trying to see if there are nearby alternatives to the hotel.  As we will be back/forth from hotel to house during the day, at worst we can have main meal at gluten free restaurant on the beachfront...but may still need to have something small (even tapas) at night... any advice would be helpful! Normally we rent apartment etc which is a bit more practical regarding food! thanks !

I'm also moving to this area soon but have been staying in Alicante. I found a really good place in the city although its shut until the 7th september - Vegan bombon sin gluten. They do really good cakes too.

I understand your position as I have friends who are seriously gluten and dairy intolerant - due to serious illness, not a fad.

It may be fairly difficult to find restaurants catering specifically for this kind of diet; my honest advice would be to simply choose items from the menu which do not contain wheat products, and if in doubt to ask the waiting staff to confirm with the kitchen. What may be impossible to guard against, however, would be cross-contamination ofproducts in the kitchen, as local facilities are unlikely to be able to afford complete separation.

I can confirm that Carrefour on the N332 has a pretty good stock of gluten-free foods...pasta/bread etc..

Thanks - my experience regarding restaurants is that most of them are actually aware of food intolerances/allergies and make a huge effort to help.... big difference from France!  Where you are considered a nuisance!!

You’re considered a nuisance in France if you’re a vegetarian, so you’re in good company!!!!!

Oh yes we won't even go down that route:  think the only thing vegetarians can get in most restaurants is a salad!!!
