When de-registering and exporting a UK car, that has spanish plates, back to UK, do you actually have to get green plates to go on the vehicle or is it just the paperwork they give you back after you've deregistered it from spanish plates?

Hi Wendy,

there is a useful description of the deregistration procedure/process in the attached link from Healthplan magazine, it mentions that you have to apply for the green plates once the request has been processed.

We have deregistered the car, Baja por traslado a otro país)  and applied for green plates, so they have given us a permission de circulacion with a different plate, i was wondering if they are actual plates we have to go have made up to attach to the car

Hi, from what I have read on-line you have to get plates made up and fitted to the car.

I don't know where you can get this done, sorry. Someone else on here may know or, if not, try calling one of the car registration companies and ask their advice.

. Spanish-Number-Plates got my car registered here, they're very helpful. You'll also need to advise your insurance company of the new registration number.

Rgds,

Aitch

We drove back on Spanish plates so that it still was covered by Spanish ITV and insurance.

No duty to pay as added it to TOR.

Once here, I paid a company to get it registered with DVLA, they explained the timings, how to get the MOT while still on Spanish plates, and how the process deregistered it in Spain.

Cost a few hundred but no stress and kept car legal all the way.

That's quite helpful, thank you. Have been going through the TOR too.

And thank you to all who replied, always a helpful and informative forum
