Hi Tricia,
I still don't understand why they thought AZ was high risk to the older age groups, when early reports showed that those most affected were twice as many women than men, and especially those women who are on the contraceptive pill or HRT. Even in the relatively very small number of people who have experienced blood clots, they have been caused by a rare antibody reaction, resulting in unusual clots with low blood platelets. As you're 69, you may well be offered the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) single-dose vaccine, which is being rolled out in Spain from next week, or even the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines. Those of us who are 64 and below probably have no choice other than AZ - not that I mind that.
Ultimately, I think the world will end up with probably 10 or so very effective vaccines, with slight differences that make them more or less suitable for certain age groups/genders, and we'll all be vaccinated according to which is most suitable for each individual. They manage to tweak the 'flu vaccine every year, to respond to its mutations, so I'm sure they'll become as proficient with the Covid-19 vaccine in time.
Kind regards,
Kim
