Found out today at vets that flea drops I put on my dog has caused a skin reaction on my little dog causing him to scratch. He also had a bad reaction to a certain flea collar I put on him in the past.

OMG we think we are doing our best, but sometimes we get it wrong. I shall look at the things you have said and try other options thank you

It could be mites (flea treatment doesn't touch them). There are plenty of anti mite shampoos on ebay etc. Shampoo 3 times in one week and twice the next week to disrupt their egg to mite life cycle.

Things like this can get out of hand over a long period. Your concern is quite justified👍

I have recently, three months, ago adopted a Yorkie Cross, she is very healthy, has a flea collar on also had spot protection against fleas, however she is continually scratching, sometimes it wakes me at night. I have put sulphur blocks in her drinking water as suggested, I have bathed her in an...

...ti allergy shampoo, I am giving her cod liver oil tablets thinking it might be dry skin. She has just been to vet for Rabies injections so I don't really want her to have more injections for antihistamine treatment just yet. She has had several different foods, sachets, dry food, soft roll like Webbox, currently on cooked chicken. but still she scratches.

Hi Flamencalady,  With ref to your dog problem, our friends had a similar situation over several years and they spent a fortune on vets investigations and medication. I will do a cut & paste of their reply to me today :-Now, the problem with the dog scratching. We can only go on what we have found out with Bella and would like to keep the ladies costs down  as  far as possible. Having  the dog tested for allergies  is  an expensive process and with Bella, found that it was the protein in  dog food. We found that Mega( a German  company) have a herring  and  potato kibble.  We actually had a sample packet before purchasing it. The shop that stocks the food is :-  Mundoviviente, Calle Rosa/Torrevieja, Esquire 03193 San Miguel Tel 966840215.

After finding out about Bellas allergy,  she also has Apoquel. You need to visit the vets to get them but those tablets are expensive ( 2 euros a day) so  I would  try just the dog food first.

Hope this helps.

Helllo, had dogs all my life and worked with assistance dogs. A few questions.

is your dog itching and scratching the same part of the body

Is your dog loose when toileting

Does your dog show any signs of redness or sores under tummy and around inside of legs

Has your dog been recently microchipped

Has your dog been wormed recently

Try her on grain free food. My dog used to scratch and chew her feet. Turned our she’s allergic to grain which is in most dog foods.
