I suggest you move and make the residency application before the end of the year, whilst the pre-Brexit rules still apply.

There have been a lot of topics on the subject over the last few months, so do a bit of browsing on the forum.

The easiest way to prove finances is to get your pension paid to Spain, and transfer a bit more as well each month if needed, or ensure your Spanish bank account shows a healthy balance over a three month period.

Talk to DWP at Newcastle and get them to issue an S1 to transfer from NHS to Spain.

You could ask the cop shop at Alicante, but the figure I've seen from reliable sources is €7000 per person balance, or €900 per month income.

Just been to see our Spanish legal chap today who has informed me that the police have stopped physical residency ( green card ) at this time due to brexit and has advised us to apply for fiscal residency then see what happens. Has anyone else heard anything about this.

I've not heard of that one.

I've just checked the online appointment system for Alicante police, and that's offering appointments from the 12th Feb onward under the special category for UK citizens.

I also don't understand having to apply for fiscal residency. Move here in the first half of the year and you are automatically fiscally resident. Move here in the second half of the year and you don't become fiscally resident until the following year.

Sorry Jim

What does the €7000  represent?

From either two or three (not sure how many) recent reports about residency applications at Alicante, it seems that being able to show a bank balance of at least €7000 per person, on the three most recent monthly bank statements, is accepted as proving adequate finances, without the need to show regular monthly deposits.
