My husband was diagnosed with Prostrate cancer in the Urology department in Torrevieja Hospital in early April, all was put in place with radiology treatment to begin 1st July in Quiron Hospital.  MRI 18 May, blood test 4 June, then oncologist 10 june, to do all the checks and set him up on the machine to start.  When we arrived on the 10th we were informed the MRI scan had not been sent so nothing could be done.  Since then I have been to every relevant department in the hospital to plead to either have a copy of the MRI or to send it to Quiron, the Oncologist has also asked many times.  Last resort, we saw our Dr last Friday and he sent an urgent email and said we should have had the report within a couple of weeks, certainly in time for 10 May when the set up process would start.  We have now been waiting 2 months, just for this MRI scan.

Does anyone know how I can get through to someone in the hospital who will listen, cancer does not wait or go away by itself.

Thank you in advance

Hi Lalo

So sorry to read about your husband delay in the scheduled treatment for cancer. Had hope anyone else would have replied on your post. Due to I´m only here visiting, second time. But I do know from a visit on Mallorca few years ago, when I helped a woman, that Spain are under EU and therefore also have agreed curtain term/condition regarding cancertreatment.

I´m from DK, and have done some help with cancerpatient there, and from that experience alone without knowing the spanish hospitalsystem, I will proposed that you take contact to AECC and ask theme for advised on your husbands right and help to get it on, IF the MRI-scan matter still are going the right way.

I found this no. open 24/7: 900 100 036

Or the local in Alicante: 965 92 47 77

https://www.aecc.es/es

Start with the above, hopefully the can help and they know the system in Spain. I personally would at the moment use my energy on getting the treatment started ( push every bottom to push in the hospital,  make a sit down not leaving until the director of the cancerward have talked to you ( or don´t leave until they have solved it), and then make the complain afterwards.

My best wish that the problems are resolve or will be soon

Go down to floor -1 and turn right, keep walking along until you come to a large counter that is for retrieving documentation, CDs of MRI's etc.   Take your passport.    You can request a copy of the MRI CD there, you have to go yourself.   You will be able to collect it Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11am - 1pm  when they have sent you a note to your telephone to tell you to collect it.   You will need  your SIP card and any other documentation you think necessary.   Take the print out also of the MRI paperwork to show them when you had it done.   I have done this and it worked.   Good luck,

Hi Andrea, yes i did all that and the guy at the desk said there was no record but to go next morning to the room next door S,A,I,P who are there to help everyone, saw a lady, she didn't want to know and told me to go to Radiology to get the Report, did that and she also said we have to wait and basically to go away......  I then found on YO Salud an email address for S.A.I.P and I have asked for help, I had no reply but the following week, our Dr called and said we could collect the report and take it Quiron, which we did, he now starts his treatment on 1st August a month late but at least it is happening, was that just a coincidence or did the email work?  Who knows..... I also have a problem so I have tried again, see what happens, if it works I will post the email address I used!

Thank you for answering

Hi Losa

I don´t know, if there is a period from first contact from own doctor with suspicion on cancer (bladder) and when they have to start the treatment at the moment in Spain. But 3 month from  first contact in early april (the first plan) seem a long time, and now 4 month. Have there been any talked to speed up the process due to their mess up with the MRI, I would hope so.

Therefore I would contact the AECC anyway, to hear about your husbands right in the Spanish regards cancer treatment. And I think it can differ from region to region about time table to get treatment. When you have energy to do that. And then you have made a connection and information, that can come handy concerning treatment offered, side effect ect. Also the mental side of this form of cancer is good to have some information on.

In my opinion is better to know in advanced, before the problems come up. Maybe you would be consider a non-easy wife/patient,  personally I wouldn´t care, when it comes to get the treatment as fast as possible. But people are different. I like the respect that knowledge can give rather than looked at as a nice patient/relative.

Again my best

Randi
