I'm afraid I can't offer any insight into when is the best time to get an appointment - they seem to be as rare as hen's teeth at the moment - but regarding your query about the drop-down boxes, yes, you do need to use both:  

From the SELECCIONAR drop-down list, “Provincias disponibles” [Provinces available], select ALICANTE, then Acceptar.

-  From the "Tramites Oficinas de Extranjeria" [Foreign Office Procedures] drop-down list, select:

          "TRAMITE PARA LA DOCUMENTACION DE NACIONALES DEL REINO UNIDO (BREXIT)" 

          [Procedure for the documentation of nationals of the United Kingdom (Brexit)], 

then:

-  From the “Tramites cuerpo Nactional de PolicÍa” [National Police Force Procedures] drop–down list, select:

          "POLICIA-EXP.TARJETA ASOCIADA AL ACUERDO DE RETIRADA CIUDADANOS BRITANICOS Y SUS FAMILIARES (BREXIT)" 

          [Police-EXP. Card associated with the Withdrawal Agreement for British Citizens and their relatives (Brexit)],

then "Acceptar"

That's interesting.  When I wrote my guide to applying for an EX-23, there was only one drop-down available (the second one). The additional drop-down was added after I'd applied for my EX-23, so I asked a gestor who works regularly at Alicante office and he advised me what should be put in the first box.  I"m happy to ask him again even though, as you say, it probably makes no difference.  What is your source please?

Thanks Trotter.  In fact, if you select the option in the top drop-down and then select the other option in the bottom drop-down, it deletes the one in the top drop-down anyway 🙂

The information in my EX-23 guide is correct, but I don't mention both drop-downs because the second one didn't exist when I made my swap.  I'll update it to make it clear that you have to select the bottom drop-down, especially as that's misleading in itself, because the EX-23 application is made at Alicante's Oficina de Extranjeria (Foreigners' office), not the Policia Nacional 🤔

Hi manage to get an appointment for last week but was told by the solicitor it was a cancellation as there are non available till next year.
