Would like to know if there is any one who is in the process of getting residency using the new system. This means booking an appointment in the at the Spainish Embassy in the UK to start the process.

Yes you are required to apply to the Spanish embassy initially for a non lucrative Visa and be able to meet the income and healthcare requirements.
To achieve residency you will need to prove that you have full healthcare paid for a full year and meet the income requirements which are around €33,000 per annum for a couple. (Money in a savings account may be accepted) Other documents will also be required.

Hi Andycolleen,
Did you see this in the 'Spain Tips and Guides' section - although it's for Costa Almeria, the process for the visa should at least be the same in the UK, albeit there may be regional differences for the second stage, permit application in Spain:
Also, Steve1686, one of the members in Costa Blanca region helpfully wrote up a note of his own experience:
Non Lucrative Visa - Lawyer or DIY?
Kind regards,

Hi, thank you so much for the information. If we're sponsored by a couple living in Spain. How will that be? Do we have to pay tax and also do they have to pay tax because we're living with them? Would appreciate a reply. Thank you so much.

You can't be sponsored by anyone. You have to make an application to reside permanently in Spain. If you have a job offer you can apply for a work Visa. Living in the household of friends or relatives in Spain doesn't give you any rights or advantages to Residency.
