Winter Heating

Are aircon units expensive to use for home heating? I have Day & Night tariff for electric.

New air con units are efficient. If you want to use silent heating (I know the constant noise of air con units can annoy some people) then you can buy small panel heaters in Leroy Merlins. They are usually about €80 ish and only use 400 watts, so don't use a lot, easy to put up but must be mounted on an internal wall. They can be left on all the time as background heat, in a smaller apartment would be sufficient on their own most of the time, or turned off during the higher rate times and just run on low rate electricity. You can also use a bottled gas heater but not all the time as they produce a lot of water vapour - a combination of heat sources tend to work well.
Be careful about some of the bigger heaters as they can use a lot of wattage so not only costly but can overload your system and cause annoying tripping!
