This is a very difficult situation and I feel very sorry for you. On what grounds would Salus refuse your claim? Private Health Insurance cover varies dependent upon which ‘level’ of their cover you choose - it’s usually only the most comprehensive and most costly of the ranges which covers everything, but none of them will cover pre-existing conditions; if you leave Salus and apply elsewhere, they will again require your complete health history and won’t cover anything pre-existing; not declaring something will completely invalidate your cover should you claim.
We recently applied to DKV as they were doing a very good offer (we are entitled to Spanish health care, but wanted this also) and were unceremoniously comprehensively refused within 24 hours as my husband has the usual conditions that many older men have; perfectly well controlled by medication and not posing any threat, but classed as ‘pre-existing’ and therefore too risky.
You may just have to self-fund until you’ve had residency for long enough as the previous poster said.
EDIT: we were advised to contact a specialist insurer in, if I remember, Cartagena, who does deal with this kind of situation. I rang and gave basic details and was quoted, for the two of us, with no pre-existing conditions for me, nearly 14,000 euros per annum as a premium - roughly 7K per person.
