Hello all

MY wife and seem to have mislaid (how I do not know) our original NIE certificates which were issued 2 years ago.

Does anyone have any experience / tips as to how to go about getting replacements?

I cant imagine the process being straightforward but remain optimistic..... :-)

Any advice / knowledge would be appreciated

Regards

Andrew

The original certificate is not like a passport or driving licence, i.e. it is not the document itself which is important, it is the number you were issued with and which remains yours. You can find it if you've forgotten it on all sorts of things like your TIE card, for example.

I don't think I've ever been asked to show the original certificate in any situation since I got it in 2018.

I had to get an original copy of mine in order to apply for my TIE.  I'd lost it too.

I made an appointment online and had to go to Alcoi, which is where they issue them.  Had to take a number of forms, two photos and had to pay some tax at the Bank first.  My appointment was in the morning (there were loads of people there) and they said to come back at 4pm I think.  At that point they handed out all the new documents, which are literally a printed A4 piece of paper, with an official stamp and signature.

If you look online, hopefully you'll find the correct link to apply.  I'm afraid I can't remember what it was.

Good luck!

Many thanks for the reply

You are probably right that it will be rare occasions but I would feel happier if we had them. We recently bought a car from our neighbours and they had to produce the original NIE document.

Thanks Paul

That's helpful.

Sounds like the sort of process I was expecting...

Cheers

Hi

I echo what herefordjack said. I got my NIE about 9 years ago and can't remember ever being asked for the cert.

Cheers

Steve
