It is still illegal to rent out a property for holiday/leisure purposes to anyone without a Tourist License and without paying due tax on that rental income.  Also need to comply with the requirement to register all paying guests, which you cannot do without a License.  Non-compliance with any of those things can result in a fine.  You said in your post to RENT it through AirBnB without a License and you said the RENT it to friends and family or let them stay for free - so, with all due respect, you did suggest they do something illegal.

I have given my suggestions for doing what they can to legally prevent future occupation by squatters in previous comments as requested in the original post.

Ok so one more time since you don't Airbnb and I do, license isn't required.

As for my suggestion. I said let let friends and family stay for free....fully legal not license required. I also said or charge them and get a license if you must. Again doing it legally.

However purely to justify it for you instead of going on on about legally I will rewrite it. Ok?

Squatters will always find their way in. I suggest getting a trustworthy person, weather its a friend, family member or a registered company who deal with key holding to go round regularly so show an active presence of your property. Also you can allow family and friends to stay there absolutely 100percent free, as guests so that the property is occupied a often as possible. You can also rent it out during the time you are not there, do it legally by getting a tourist lisence. Dave is that ok for you?

Now heres what would be an illegal suggestion so I can be clear up any misunderstanding on my original post.

You could rent it out cash in hand to your friends and family who would just give you the money cash in hand before they leave the UK and therefore it's untraceable. Or rent it out to friends and family, who can legally transfer money free from one UK account to another and Spanish authorities wouldn't know different....non of this I suggested although it is massively done.

I don't see why I have had to go through explaining all this just to satisfy you but hopefully now its cleared up.

You could look at Costa Caretaking. 

I think that they are on here. 

I've not used them and so give no warranty as to their services. 

If you decide to use them, my advice check registration details.

If you are letting for Holiday or Leisure purposes then you are breaking the law if you do not have a Tourist License.  You can only let for residential purposes without one.  Clearly the owner of the property is not interested in letting out the house for residential purposes as wants to use it themselves, and they are looking for ways to secure the property.

Thank you for clarifying that letting for payment for a holiday requires a Tourist License, even if to friends and family.  Yes, we all know people do untraceable payments because they can get away with it, but that doesn't change it being illegal.  If AirBnB are found to be advertising unlicensed properties for holiday letting then no doubt they will be fined again by Spanish authorities.  Any owner found renting out for holiday purposes without a license will also be fined.

It isn't about rewording things to satisfy me, it is about not suggesting someone (even inadvertently) breaks the law and opens themselves up to yet more heartache and cost after already having gone through an horrendous and expensive experience with squatters.

He wanted someone to go in a build something to stop them. I suggested other things. I didn't think I would need to go into the legality of renting because people have common sense. I pointed out that it was going off topic and repeated my suggestions, all legal.  I simply pointed out that renting for holiday purposes could have consequences if no Tourist License.  I did not set out to provide 'entertainment' just correct information.

My suggestions regarding securing the property were as follows:

"New locks, maybe new grills, alarm and regular checks by a keyholding company are the best options.  You can also use a live link security camera if you have wifi that you can monitor from your phone.  Blink do one (Amazon) that you can even speak to the person outside the house via your phone and tell them to go away as you are calling the police."

And just to clarify regarding security cameras in Spain, the camera must not be able to film or photograph those on land that does not form part of the property, ie a public pavement or someone else's garden.
