In the event of an accident in a hired car from one of the established hire companies at Murcia Airport, can somebody please explain the processes involved?

I’ve long wondered what to do, naively.

Thank you in anticipation.

So would you advise I’m wasting my money taking out full premium insurances out with the car rental companies?

Hi Bobbygee,

When you hire a car from one of the airport hire companies, they must provide you with contact details in the case of emergency, i.e. accident or breakdown, so refer to your car hire documentation.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi,

the link below explains what to do if you have a traffic accident in Spain,, it applies to all cars, rental or otherwise. There will be a accident incident form with the rental car that needs to be completed in the event of a accident.

I would recommend getting excess insurance cover from one of the UK companies that provide the service, it will generally be far cheaper than taking out the rental company's offering. I used Questor for many years, they were reasonably priced plus paid out promptly when I had a claim.

Make sure to ask the rental company about their accident procedure, have contact numbers for the rental company and their breakdown/accident collection service readily to hand.

It's very unusual to have a serious accident, usually at worst it is the odd knock or scrape when you return to your vehicle, but best to be prepared.

Rgds,

Aitch.
