Hi , can anybody help with this question , my husband is a UK pensioner and receiving a state pension.
I am not in receipt of a State Pension and won’t be for a further two years.

We bought a property in Campoverde last year and tend to stay a couple of months at a time.
We have been advised that I need to complete an S1 form by another resident in the area, but I’m not sure we do, unless we live in Spain, which we don’t . Can anyone please give some advice on this? Thank you

If you are non resident you cannot use the S1 healthcare scheme. If you submit the S1 forms to the INSS you are in effect transferring your healthcare to the Spanish system and withdrawing the use of the UK NHS.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply, this was the conclusion we reached, but having been told by 2-sets if people we have to do this we weren’t sure we were correct. I’m assuming that our medical insurance therefore covers us?

The other thing that we were advised of is that we would need to register with a doctor in Campoverde . Can this also be confirmed please?

As Tebo says, the S1 transfers your healthcare from UK and your UK records will be archived. It is only for those taking up residency in Spain.

If you are on travel insurance, you don't register with a doctor and you can't register with a Spanish NHS GP. If you require treatment, you need to go to a private doctor and the approved ones will be available from your insurers.

Some clinics allow you to use them with a GHIC and issue a temp healthcard which saves you completing the forms each time but it is using the GHIC. In emergencies, you can use any of the A&E centres at the hospitals and the initial treatment is free. Again, you need your GHIC but you will need your travel insurance for any ongoing treatment.

As non residents you can use an EHIC/GHIC for treatment which becomes necessary whilst you are in Spain and cannot wait until your return to UK, outside that your travel insurance should cover you.

You cannot register with a specific doctor but in some instances you may still be able to register at your local Salud (health centre) who may issue you with a temporary SIP card (6 months max) as an administrative convenience to avoid having to do the paperwork the use of an EHIC/GHIC would generate each time.

You haven't mentioned the padron but with the bum info you're being given it may be that someone will tell you to sign onto it which as non residents you both cannot and must not do.

Thank you very much for your quick and comprehensive response. It’s confusing when people tell you you that you need to do things, I guess they’ve done this as residents and not because they have a second home. Thanks again.

Thanks for this information, funnily enough it was mentioned just the other day. Thanjs
