bad smell in villa

Smell can com from damp or somthing as simple as the u bends in the sinks and shower drying out just run the water and this often sorts the problem out if it has been left at this time of year.

You need to check that the cockroaches have not blocked your toilet. Thay love to live in the sewer pipes'

Do you have a reliable neighbour that you can leave a key with, if so ask them if they can run some water down your drains a couple of times a month to keep the water traps clear. Maybe a drop of jeyes fluid poured down after each flush will help with your cockroach problem as well.

Just for information, every time we leave our place for the uk I always put plenty of bleach down every plughole (bidet inc), leave for 20 mins then pour at least half a kettle of boiling water down each plughole (taking care to pour straight down the hole and not onto the ceramic).  Done this in my caravans for years and never had any bad smells....your problem may be nothing to do with the plug holes...but non the less it's a good practise to get into I think.     Best of luck

Quite right we always  put sink unblocker down as the pipe levels are not always good and more so in showers! then wash out with boiling water Be carefull not to breath in the fumes but as said previously they do dry out leaving the sewer smell open to come in unless water is run after 3 or 4 days in the summer.

We have owned a property for just over 2 years now and never had any problems with smells or cockroaches and we are sure this is down to the invaluable advise given to us from neighbours.

We permanently have corks fixed into the sink overflow holes

We always leave our plugs in ( my husband is now the plug police)

We do as previously mentioned with bleach/sink blocker and then we put a piece of stretch & seal onto the water that's left in the toilet and also cover the whole of the toilet hole fully with the same then put lid down.

This smell is normal in Spain when your place is not in use and no regular flushing, apparently it's because they don't use U bends in Spain, and that is the reason.
