I was walking the dogs yesterday when I spotted a large black bag down an embankment. The dogs were pulling towards it so I went to investigate. Really wished I hadn't! There was something very big and obv dead in the bag. It wasn't trash as I could see bones poking thru. Someone went to a lot of trouble to dump this as they had to walk along the top of a narrow uneven embankment . I can't stop thinking about it. I hate the thought that this poor animal ( or animals ) probably had a very bad life and have been dumped like so much unwanted rubbish. I know they are dead and there's nothing can be done about that but do the local police need to be informed? Would they even be interested, in case it's animal cruelty? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

What makes you sure it was a dog, you haven't explained. If you have any doubts contact the police immediately and let an expert determine what has been dumped.

Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience - whatever you found, it sounds distressing.  I can't imagine that any genuine animal lover would be able to rid their memory of such a sight.  Personally, I would report this to the Policia Local, as it would be horrible for anyone else to come across it.

On a general note about animal cruelty in Spain, the Policia Local are unlikely to take any action where an animal has shelter, food and water.  However, you can report instances to Seprona, the section of the Guardia Civil which deals with, amongst others things, animal cruelty.  Here's an explanation of the process:

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi, where was this? I walk my dog and I would hate to come across something like that! Yes! Inform the police, evening it's simply to have the bones removed!!

How awful.

You know the road opposite the hairdressers near Spar? At the end there's waste ground, runs adjacent to the main road? When you go past the house with the huge terra-cotta pots in the garden, just off there. You probably won't stumble across this, I went looking because I spotted the bag and I knew it hadn't been there before. A habit I got from my mum, always looking in boxes and bags to make sure there wasn't any abandoned animals in them.

Misty blue, I have sent you a PM.

Anyone else offended by my original reply including the OP please accept my apologies. It was far from my intention.

Adrian.

Misty Blue - Adofeegs made a perfectly reasonable point - no need to be so hostile.

Ok, so I have a confession to make. Thanks for all the interest shown in this post as it has seriously been playing on my mind and upsetting me no end. I couldn't go past the site without feeling like crying. So Misty Blue, thanks so much for your belief and support but unfortunately Adofeegs made a perfectly valid point. So I went back to check. Unfortunately the poor creature is still there but I was able to get closer and remove some of the bag and thankfully it's not a dog. However, it is a deer carcass  ( I could see the legs and hooves) and I don't know if that is worse! Dumped because it was poached maybe? Anyway, I can rest a bit easier now I know  tho not much. I'm sorry if I've caused any problems for anyone and yes I did jump the gun on identifying the contents as a dog because a deer didn't enter my head and I saw brown fur.
