I've had state health care on the back of my husband for a few years as he was a pensioner. I'm now old enough to apply for my own sip card

I've registered online with social services and completed the online form along with my S1 . I've had an email confirming that it's in progress. I just wondered if anyone else who's done this themselves could tell me how long it took before they received their own sip card?

Don't you mean the Social Services department, not the Agencia Tributaria? The latter is the tax man.

When I did the process (online), I had my document back by email within 48 hrs to take to my local Centro de Salud to issue my SIP card. It might be different in your neck of the woods, depends how busy they are, I suppose.

Thank you for your reply.

I did mean social services. I got mixed up as I was accessing cl@ve as well on agencia tributaria.

I'm waiting for them to get back to me from Torrevieja

Hi,

IfI was you I would go to your local surgury taking the relevant papers with you, and ask them if they have it for you.

Cheers, J

It's no use going to your local surgery if you haven't got the neccessary social services  authorisation paper, they'll just send you away. There is a process to follow, if you do it correctly, you'll eventually get your SIP card.

This is copied from a UK government website. They don't mention the need to have an electronic certificate on your computer and apparently you can do it without, but it's a lot easier with one (also, where it says digital copies, it means scanned copies):

If you cannot visit an INSS office in person, you can register your S1 form online instead.

Some parts of the process are either in Spanish or need to be completed in Spanish.

Before you start

You’ll need digital copies of the following documents:

  • your S1 form
  • a completed healthcare application form – available to download on the INSS S1 registration webpage (in Spanish)
  • your passport
  • your green A4 or credit-card-sized residency certificate (‘residencia’) or new TIE card (Tarjeta de Identidad Extranjera)
  • proof of how dependants are related to the S1 holder

If you’ve applied for your TIE card but not yet received it, you can include a copy of the confirmation that your application has been approved (resolución favorable) by the Spanish authorities.

You’ll also need:

  • an email address
  • a Spanish telephone number
  • your NIE (número de identidad de extranjero)
Register your details

The INSS website has an online registration form.

The form is in Spanish.

Once you have completed and saved the healthcare application form, you will need to send this with the rest of the necessary documentation:

  • click on ‘enviar solicitud’
  • follow the instructions on your screen to confirm your identity (the process is in Spanish)
  • provide any additional information that may be relevant to your application using the text box under ‘Datos de la solicitud’
Upload your files

Attach all the documents listed at the start of this guide.

Submit your form

To complete the process, you’ll need to verify your e-mail address again and submit your application.

Get an update on your application then select ‘Ya he presentado una solicitud y quiero conocer su estado y/o aportar mas documentacion’.

The INSS will contact you if they need further information or if you need to book an appointment to visit an INSS office.

This is me again, Herefordjack! If you do this application correctly, they will email you a one page authorisation document which you print off and take to your local health centre with passport, TIE and padron and ask them to supply your SIP card. Take every other document you can think of just in case. This is Spain, after all!
