We have a log-burner although rarely use it in fairness - but there's something about a proper wood fire that I like.

This thread is a good starting point and provides both sides:

When we moved into our house some years ago, we became the proud possessors of a totally inefficient old Spanish log burner which had no effect beyond the space immediately surrounding it. We invested in a modern, Austria, highly efficient log burner, which was magnificent in its output. However, some few years later, having becoming more and more unwilling to keep stacking 3 cu mt of logs dumped on the drive a couple of times during the cold periods, the concomitant mess of cleaning the damn thing and having had the sitting room repainted due to the inevitable escape of smoke when chucking another table leg on the fire, we had it taken out and replaced by a pellet burner from the same manufacturer. The relief is palpable, no waiting for an hour before it has an effect on the room, no stacking, although the pellet sacks are a pain to carry in! Press the button to ignite. Cleanthe ashes out every three days or so depending on how much one uses it, but it’s not a great amount anyway, vacuum occasionally and wipe down the glass..  Have it serviced annually by the suppliers.

It also runs virtually silent and the flames are as impressive as a log fire, although to be fair, I have read comments from people who have perhaps bought less efficient versions, that the pellet feed is noisy, the mechanism runs loud and the flames are deeply unimpressive.

We would never buy a log burner again!

Stephanie, I did exactly the same as you, just got fed up with humping wood and cleaning the mess.
The only observation I can make is that I thought the pellet burner would be more economical. The pellets I use are now around €6/bag from Leroy Merlin.

Hi, Classic Man,yes, agree re the fuel cost, but this is still cheaper than last year when they were 8.50 a bag, thanks to the international political fracas. But our stove supplier will deliver and stack pellet bags where we want them, providing that we order a minimum of ten bags, we have no intention of hauling them out of LM store, heaving them into the car and reversing the procedure at the other end. We used to buy them from Carrefour, to save a few coppers, we would rather accept 25cents a bag  more not to have the hassle!

Hi Stephanie,

Before I got the stove I asked around everybody I could find who had one as to who did the best pellets. The consensus was LM, but living near Sax the nearest LM is Elche.
That is not saying you can't get pellets near here, you can, but people said that the quality is not as good as they fall to bits and produce more ash, which means more cleaning out.

I go down to Guadamar fairly regularly so stop off at Elche and fill the back of the Jeep with a dozen or so bags.  This heating season I have not used more than 10 bags.  I tend to use gas if it is not too cold.

Well we are lucky in that our stove supplier only sells high quality varieties and we’ve now been buying them for a couple of years. We have no gas of any description, our house is entirely electric and being miles out in the campo on the mountain side, gets very Cold! We go through quite a lot, I reckon approx 40 bags this season. We do have ancillary underfloor piped heating run by a heat pump which is surprisingly effective and not outrageous to run, but definitely needs supplementary pellet burner in the evenings or weekends if not doing much.p, especiallyas the ground floor is open throughout.

Hi, we moved here in January when it was very cold , .

We had the fire place removed and Richard from RD stoves came around and advised us on a pellet burner , its great no mess ,very efficient and reasonably quiet with a brilliant bright orange flame so looks very warm and inviting .

Its a Nordica Claudia it has a great out put and heats all downstairs also up if we leave bedroom doors open.

You need to make sure the kw output is enough to heat your room.

Im sure he could advise you why not give him a ring ar R D stoves Campoverde.
