Hi, I will be moving permanently to our house in the campo between Pinoso and Monovar at the end of Jan and will be looking to buy some ex battery hens or just layers and would be grateful for any info as to where I might be able to do this.

Hi I have 10 laying hens and I searched everywhere to save some battery hens. I never found any as they are killed when they stop laying so there are none to rescue. I ended up buying mine from the pet shop in Pinoso at 5€ each. It still felt like a bit of a rescue as they were crammed in a small cage and no doubt would have ended up in not so nice conditions. My girls free range with my Donkeys in a campo near Salinas off the Pinoso/Monovar road.

The pet shop is called Agri Zoo not far from the vets in Pinoso. They also sell chickens in Agri Zoo in Monovar.  Both Agri Zoo sell chicken feed etc and so does ZooSax  in Sax.

I have just ordered 6 more chickens online as I wanted some Sussex and Biblues which are hard to come by.

Let me know if I can help any more.

Best regards Jan.

Hi the chickens arrived in fabulous condition. The courier service were great they phoned to inform me of time of arrival and duly came bang on time. I have 2 Sussex, 2 Barred Rock and 2 Biblue. They are free ranging well with the others and I expect them to start laying any day now once they are settled. I highly recommend this company Avicoladeseleccion.com

Thank you Jan I will definitely have a go at this. Are you on the campo and did the courier deliver direct to your door?

Hi yes I am in the campo and we never get a delivery to the door, I always pick up at the local petrol station. I added a note to my order asking the driver to call me to meet at the petrol station and he did. Very impressed.

If you want some ordinary chickens at the moment (As Monovar and Pinoso don’t have any) we bought 3 the other day from an animal feed store/pet store in Hondon de las Nieves and they are top girls, very nice condition. We thought we would try them from there as we spotted them when we were buying straw for our donkey boys.

Don’t hesitate if you want more info. Always happy to help where animals are concerned.
