Hi Mart,

I've done it twice.  The first time was because our ferry from Plymouth to Santander, on which we'd had a cabin booked, was cancelled the morning of the crossing and the only alternative was Plymouth to Roscoff, France.  The second time was last year, on the Caen to Portsmouth crossing....

...  The difference between the two journeys was that the second had dedicated rooms with the reclining seats that you could pre-book, whereas the first was just in an open area on one side of the ship.  In reality, both were awful.  The seats aren't dissimilar to airplane seats and they barely recline, but the worst of all was the selfishness of other passengers.  I won't bore you the details, but I would recommend that you take an eye mask and ear plugs, and don't choose a seat on a back row, unless it backs onto a bulkhead.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi.

We did the crossing 2.5 months ago.

Majority of people like ourselves who had booked a recliner ended up on the sofas around the bar and rest areas, take a throw as it gets absolutely cold rheough the night.

There are showers along the cabin corridors ,not sure whether you have rights to use them but no one would blink an eye.

There was entertainment and bingo lol,the pre booked meal was OK.

All in all it was a good crossing.and time went quick.

Hi Kim, ok thanks very much for the info. My brother in law has booked it and he just said we have reclining seats, that’s all I know at the moment. Must admit I’m not really looking forward to it. Mart

Wben you get on board ask at reception desk level 6 or 7 if any cabins available as they may get last minute cancellations freeing up some cabins, worth the ask

Hi Mart,

We did this years ago with another line and it was ok. We were younger and full of fun and treated it as an adventure.  Now I wouldn't want to do it. It's a long crossing. What I can say is that on one crossing we have changed cabins as cabin we were allocated was not suitable. So there are spare cabins. Why dont you try straight away for one when you get on board. In the event of no cabins I would take a fold up foot stool ( 4.99 in Asda) to prop your seat up so you can lie comfortably. The props on the seats aren't very high so personally I think they are not good. Take a roll up blanket although they do supply one if u need one but its first come first serve. We always book Plymouth to Bilbao as the return journey up the motorway from Portsmouth is easier than Plymouth when you have to make your way up north. I doubt u could get a cabin this late on line, but I think u may be successful ringing them  we always were. Have a fab time and stay safe ! Della

Hi, we did the same crossing as you earlier this year on one of the new BF boats. The recliners are very uncomfortable and almost impossible to get any sleep , so we slept on a bench seat in one of the quieter areas . I recommend you wear lightweight comfortable clothing and take a lightweight sleeping bag or throw and a pillow as this is the only way you will get any sleep . Also the costs of the WiFi on board are very expensive so be prepared to be without your phone for the journey. Bon voyage.
