Hello everyone,

Could anyone recommend a bank here, that they have had good experience and costs are low or non existent.

Many thanks,

Jean

Cajamar allows you to purchase a Bond for 1000€. This remains your money and attracts a miniscule interest yearly. It also ensures that you do not pay bank charges. In six years I have paid no charges. Whether, or not there is one near your location is another matter.

We went round them all in villena. You had to have house, or health insurance to get one and since brexit fees to put money in. Dee

Hi

Many people on this forum, myself included, will recommend using the online bank Wise.com

Wise.com supports direct debits and issues debit cards - that's enough for me on a day to day basis, it's very easy to convert my sterling income into euros. I also used it to change sterling into euros in order to buy my house a couple of years ago.

Cheers

Steve

In January, Brexit kicked in. Lots of people had problems with banks, and Wise.com suddenly became much more popular because they avoided the Brexit complications!

Several Spanish banks offer online only  accounts that are free of charges.

Hi Dee

I changed our bank from Sabadell to Cajamar in 2019 and couldn't recommend them higher. We were (still are) non residents and although there was no one in the Villena branch who spoke English with the help of Google translate, we managed and haven't paid a cent in 2years. I believe the way to open it has changed and people now being told they need to deposit funds (which stays their own) to have an account I would not let that put you off. It is a people's bank, started by a farmer originally for all the low income farmers and do not engage in profiteering (just the needs to keep the bank healthy). Its like a giant co-operative and it took me many weeks of researching every Spanish bank,s terms and conditions before I settled on them. Website in english, and app too, use it online but you can visit branch for a very small one off fee if you really need a face to face transaction. Only non resident fee free account with no terms and conditions re insurances etc, I could find called "weferrent". Please do yourself a favour and change to them.

Regards

Pauline.
