Thank you for your reply , we don' know where the main stop valve is , I've tried turning the silver taps in the bathroom and kitchen but that doesn' seem to have done anything

If valves won't turn easily they should be replaced due to excess of lime (every ten years or so).

They are turning easily but haven't changed the pressure at all , the hot tap on the bathroom sink is just a dribble , it is just one tap which you turn either way for hot and cold  it' fine for a shower and the kitchen sink is very slow too . We only bought the apartment late 2017 so all is still new to us yet

Thank you for that we will investigate tomorrow  , we're in an up stairs apartment there is an outdoor cupboard at the bottom of the stairs which we assumed wasn' ours so will have a look in there

Get a plumber or handyman to take the taps off and you will probably find they are full of grit and limescale! Happened to us when we bought our property last year and couldn’t believe what came out of them.

Ìf you still want a plumber to look at it, call Peter on 604 155 947. If you tell him you are here only until 30th, he’ll do evertything he can to help. Very reasonable rates as well.

All stop valves should br opened and closed at least once a year otherwise will fail when you use them to the extent that will not fully open even though the valve feels like it is opening its not they will need changing to resolve water pressure

Thank you for all your replies , we took the silver hoses off under the sink and descaled  them , couldn't believe how blocked they were , the pressure is so much better now

Sorry, but I will have mised you, you are probably on your way as I write this.

Lime is the biggest enemy in Spain, it will gum everything up. The first place to start is the taps themselves. Many have a small gauze filter at the end of the spout. If it is there, take it out and chuck it away.

For years now I have had an electric gadget on my incoming pipe at the point where it comes into the house. Don't ask me how it works. It does not actually to stop the lime but it makes it very soft , easy to clean and it does not continually build up. Given time it will break down all the existing lime as well.

I have not cleaned my kettle in months and all it needs when I do, is a brush over with the washing-up brush and it is like new.

There is a small coil of wire that wraps round the pipe (10-12 turns) where it enters the house and the ends go back to the box. There are dozens out there, many of which don't work. Mine is called Scalewatcher and it came from Fast Systems in Henley on Thames. It was not cheap but I can't fault what it does. It uses negligible electricity.
