Quite a strange answer, are you saying that a cheap car can’t be safe!

99% of the times

Cheap car = old car = a lot of km = old pieces = unsafe car

Is in UK different?

Very much so, just a case of sending a piece of paper to DVLA.
The risk of the car being mechanically sound is universal.

So where do you draw the line? How old am I aloud to buy using your standards before I’m buying an unsafe car?

Personally I’d prefer not to generalise and rather use my judgement and to asses the car as I would with pretty much anything

What a load of twaddle!!
Webought a manky looking 21yr old high km ‘seat Toledo’ in Spain 5yrs ago, paintwork looks awful, but the car…sails through MOT every time,  starts first turn even if been stood for months, no squeaks or rattles, never had a service in 5yrs, cost me 1000€.  All it’s cost us in 5yrs is a new battery.

We have friends who have gone through 3 modern cars owing to MOT failures and unreliability and they have had to borrow our little red seat several times.  Our little car is affectionately known amongst our friends as “The red rocket”

Thanks for replying to this as I completely agree with you, it's all about how a car is treated and maintained rather than the age.

You can buy cheap cars here asking as they have been serviced regularly you will be fine old doesn't mean broken. If you contact el trafico you can find any information about it. Personally (no disrespect to the other poster) I would wait till the actual owner is there on viewing before buying as it's very easy to pay a complete stranger when you're not with them and be left with nothing, there was a few post recently on here about it.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a really cheap run around car to use whilst we are at our Holiday Home. We will only be using it for around 10 weeks a year which is to much to rent but not long enough to be worth getting a good car

Looking to spend up to 1500 Euros but the cheaper the better

...>We will be needing it by the time we come out on the 31st July so if anyone has any plans to sell theirs in the next few months give me a shout and we can sort a deal out. Happy to only do the transfer when you are actually ready
Thinking that there may be people that are returning to the UK but will need their car until the time is right etc

I'm over for a week 12th Feb and again for a couple weeks beginning of April so can have any discussions or meets then

No such thing as cheap car in spain
