Hi All, Thanks for all your posts and advice but I think it is going a little off topic.

I appreciate that everyone has both good and bad experiences both buying a new and older car. I am sure that having a new car decreases the risk but it all comes down to what I can afford which brings us back to the topic which I posted

I am looking for cheap car under 1500 Euros. If I could afford a more expensive one, I would buy one so it's literally a choice of don't buy a car or buy a cheap one

Q.  I own a holiday home here and wish to buy a vehicle. I am told I should register on the padrón?

A.   No holiday home owners should not register. The padrón  is only for habitual residents of Spain. Registering could have tax implications as the person inscribed is stating that they habitually reside in Spain.

If you are asking if there are rules about non-residents being on the Padron, then yes, there are.

You can request a padron just to purchase a car and will say that.

You don't need a Padron to buy a car here.

Yes!

It's rare to actually happen but potentially there are fines both for the individuals town halls for permitting non residents to sign on their padron.

Cheap car = old car = a lot of km = old pieces = unsafe car

Like the UK then? Don’t buy from Dodgy Dean or Sly Sancho. Pay extra and have it checked out.
