Hi folks, can anyone recommend a reliable mechanic / garage to re- gas our air con in our vehicle & approximate cost, it's a VOLVO XC 60. Thanks.

Hi,

Noratuo in La Zenia do a/c regassing. I have used them for new tyres and there were good but I have not used them for any air con work. The attached link gives their prices, you could try them or use their price as a guide.

They are located at La Zenia Boulevard.

Rgds,

I’m wondering if the person who posted was able to re-gas their aircon. It would be good to hear the out come.

Hi GR, I decided against it after checking reviews.

Should be about 50 Euros, But if their is a big leak it would be a waste of time. Mine needs one every 2 years so it must be a small leak and it is a Volvo S 60 and old but still going strong.

I thought the poster wanted to re-gas their aircon in their home. I’m disappointed that that it wasn’t checked out. Our units have been installed for quite some time now and any day now, one or more of our units might stop going.  How would I know if a unit. Needed to be re-gassed? We had to replace our bedroom system a couple of years ago and it cost €630 I think  it would be marvellous to be able to fix it rather than replace the 2 parts if the system.

I think the mention of a Volvo XC60 suggested to me the OP was talking about his/her car - although an XC60 is probably bigger than some of the nonsensically sized studio apartments in city centres nowadays!

But to answer your question - and I am 100% not an expert - but the scenario that prompted us to call out an AC engineer to service the units was because the extent to which they heated/cooled the room had started to noticeable degrade. At the time they were old units and we discussed whether with the engineer whether it would be better to replace or continue. We were advised that he'd re-gas and clean/service them and then they should work better - which they did. It's a few years back now (pre COVID) but I think the cost was around 50 Euros a unit. I imagine if the unit is working (turning on/off etc and sending air out) then it might be a re-gas problem. If it's not working at all then it may be something more serious.

The view was that the improved energy efficiency of newer ones would obviously reduce your energy costs but that you might as well wait until they fall over as the ones we had were pretty solid units.

In 2023, we opted for a full replacement (internal units x 4 and external units x 2) and while I think they are more efficient (difficult to tell given the increase in electricity prices) the main improvement from my perspective has been the noise reduction when running.
