Hello All

Slowly working my way through Jim's Guides and the new TIE cards.

I got my residencia a couple of years ago but it is still temporary as within the five years, I realise that I can transfer this now and thinking it a wise move but if I exchange it for a temporary TIE surely I will just need to transfer the temporary TIE over to a permanent TIE when the time comes?

I'm thinking it's probably still worth doing but just want to check with the wise owls on here what they think?

Thank you for any help I get.

Actual queues shouldn't be much different, it's the time to get a appointment that will likely grow.

Currently running at about 4 weeks I believe.

Also bear in mind that if you've only had residency for two years and don't exchange it now for a TIE, that gives Spain three years in which to introduce additional requirements for the exchange!

Thanks everyone for your help

Just want to do the right thing. Thanks for confirming the new TIE is the way to go, helps just to hear it from others.

This forum and Jim's Guides are invaluable!

Some thoughts on

RESIDENCIA & THE TIE (ALICANTE PROVINCE)

Many will be aware that there is no deadline for exchanging your current Residencia A4 green paper/card for the new style TIE.

The process is not about re-registration but confirming status.

Indeed, there is no requirement to obtain the TIE, but it is conceivable that the green document may be questioned by officials in the future, through lack of familiarity, perhaps causing bureaucratic issues, including when returning to Spain from abroad.

That for one reason getting the new style TIE may be advantageous.

It shows not only that you retain the rights set out in the BREXIT Withdrawal Agreement (WA) but it will also serve as a Government Issued photo ID needed in Spain for personal ID - saving having to carry your Passport or a Notarised copy

Existing Residencia < 5years  =  TIE valid for 5 years

Existing Residencia > 5 years  =  TIE valid for 10 years

If personal circumstances change .. eg … change of address … then it is conceivable that a new TIE will be required in the future since the TIE has your current address printed on it.  Early days on that one!

There is a view held by a number that when the ‘swallows’ return in September/October there is likely to be a significant increase in applications for both ‘new’ and ‘exchange’ TIEs especially in the ‘coastal regions’ as we are experiencing now

Optional … not obligatory …YES … expedient … YOUR CHOICE …

We chose to .. now TIEs to hand .. Fri 7 Aug 20 … see you in 10 years !!

Hi. Only had our Residencias for 12 months but did our TIEs a couple of weeks ago. Easy when you know how. Happy to help if I can but no wise owl.

There are issues with the TIE cards with regards to inconsistencies in the Status  wording which is being reported to the UK Diplomatic authorities in Spain.  Those who are members of the various ex-pat local and not-so-local Facebook Groups will be well aware!
