Showing income for my family coming to visit for a week!
Anyone heard of this?
If family comes to visit me & stay with me for a week in Spain. Do they have to prove that they have enough money in the bank to have a holiday???

Everyone traveling to Spain should have the financial means to enter the country. You could be asked for it on entry at anytime but I don't know of anyone who ever has!! Below was taken from the Spanish goverment website.
Accreditation of financial means
At the request of the competent authorities, the traveller must present proof of having sufficient financial means for the proposed stay or of the ability to legally obtain such means.
In 2020, the minimum amount required is 90 euros per person per day. In any case, and regardless of the length of stay, the traveller must have at least 810 euros or its equivalent in foreign currency.
Economic means may be accredited by presenting cash, traveller's cheques, a credit card accompanied by a bank account statement, an up-to-date bank book, or any other resource that accredits the amount available, such as a credit statement regarding the card or bank account. Bank letters or online bank statements will not be accepted.
Been discussed several times. These rules are in place in most countries (that you have to show the means to cover your stay) and that includes UK.
Nobody ever gets stopped and asked. The only place I've ever been asked on how much money I have was when visiting the US.
I suppose if some back packer with torn jeans, flip flops and tattered T shirt turned up they might be stopped to prove their wherewithal but nobody else will be. Anyway, simply having a credit card will be ample if, in the highly unlikely event they are stopped, to show means. Or even a debit card.
There was also the story a while back that you had to have a letter of invitation if staying with family or friends. This was explained that this only applies to those who are applying for a visa to come but not to visa exempt countries.
It was also another Daily Mail wind up story.

The simple answer is NO, Don't worry, just enjoy your holiday with your family.

Thanks Kenneth. 😊 I thought I would try and find out what my son was talking about! I thought it had to be nonsense!

Basically,No,this requirement has always been here,it is there for a legal way of refusing entry to someone that the Police regard as undesirable and whom they suspect is entering the country to live off the State or criminal activities and who appears not to be self sufficient.
