Hi, has anyone had one of those water filters that fit under your kitchen sink. If so can you please tell me if they are worth having and does the filtered water fur up your kettle. Trying to make life a little easier for this old lady. Thank you.

We had one installed as carrying bottles from the supermarket, was awkward and hot - best thing we ever did, so much easier.  Had a year, just bought the filters, etc to swop from Leroy Merlin, trying this next visit, but told relatively easy. Definitely recommend for ease.  I know this sounds odd, water is water….however the water from the tap tastes great.  Not sure on kettle fur as as only visit for holidays so not daily use,  however nothing as yet.

Hi,

I have had my filter for a few years now. However, the filter need to be replaced every one to two years, depending on the makes recommendation. This is not too costly. Ours came from Leroy Merlin and we go to them to get the replacement. I drink several cups of tea day which I love and look forward to and I haven't notice anything.

I hope this helps.

I had one in a house that we bought.  The cupboard under the sink looked like the engine room on the Titanic.  Took 2 hours to rip it all out.  The water is good, don't bother with filters in my opinion.

We were going to get one, but the person we asked to instal it said our kitchen sink set up would require him to drill through our work surface, which he couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t break.

We purchased a water filter jug instead and it works for us. 6 refills in Carrefour were around 18 Euros and will last us 2.5 years.

Hello Camilla9, The Rower post indicates that one filter refill would serve them for approximately 5 months, however, my wife changed our filter approximately every 5 weeks; she said that she could taste the chlorine in our filtered water after that time over a period of 20 years. We now have a Kalys Residential Reverse Osmosis plumbed under the kitchen sink from October 2021. It occupies the whole cupboard space as it is 45cm high x 26cm wide. The filter cartridges are supposed to be changed every year according to the instruction manual, but our Spanish professional plumber who lives in Guardamar and is a trusted friend claims that it is not necessary to change the filters as we only use that water for the kettle, tea, morning glass of water etc.  The kettle stays free of fur and water tastes good, but you need to ask friends and neighbors for local advice. I hope that this helps. Peter132

Yes, I have self installed a similar RO system and love the almost pure water from a dedicated tap. The water is purer than any bottled water and is as clean as you can get. I test this regularly and I'm running at around 5 ppm (parts per million).

However, there are some downsides.

(1) Your water pressure needs to be at least 3 bar. However, you can buy a system with a booster pump to around 16 bar which makes the system even more efficient.

(2) It wastes a lot of near pure water. For ever 1 litre of pure water produced at least 1 litre is pushed down the drain. We mitigate this by piping it into the garden for irrigation.

(3) It takes up a fair chunk of space under the sink but could be fitted elsewhere.

(4) The way the osmosis membrane & water storage works it's more efficient if you fill a litre bottle, rather than a small glass.

(5) As Peter123 mentions, Although the filters do not need to be replaced as often as the manufacturer recommends, it is impotant that you test the water on a regular basis and fully discharge the system if you are away for a long period. Electronic testers can be purhased for around 7 euro from Amazon.es. https://www.amazon.es/Medidor-calidad-pureza-pantalla-digital/dp/B07G8YNPQ1?tag=cstareg0f-21 The filters are about 20 euro for all the 4 pre filters and around 27 euro for the osmossis filter which lasts between 2 and 5 years

The kits are available on amazon.es but we bought one from the UK and brought it over. Had no problems for the last 5 years

https://www.amazon.es/6-niveles-%C3%B3smosis-inversa-aumento-presi%C3%B3n/dp/B01BH04AOI/?tag=cstareg0f-21 (kit with booster pump)

I'm sure any plumber worth his salt would be able to fit one of these for you. They're not difficult but most plumbers prefer the simple cartridge installations.

I should clarify that we are UK residents and come here for 3 months at a time. One  filter lasts for each visit. Neither my wife or I notice any deterioration in taste from our filtered water.

We only use the filter for drinking water, we use tap water for the kettle and coffee machine, neither of which fur up.

Hi,

yes we have one and it is excellent filters can be changed every two years. Our kettle hasn’t furred, and really it has been a godsend having it. Came already installed as the house was a new build.

Good luck.
