Can any body tell me if you are aloud to travel to Santander to go back home to the UK since this 30 day boarder closure that was introduced yesterday as the advice we have seen from the British Consulate is yes to get back home but yesterday the police say it’s not possible. We don’t seem to be able to speak to any body from the police that understands us in English as we don’t speak Spanish. Many thanks.

Hi, All information provided is fluid and changing by the hour, however we have friends who travelled from here yesterday to Calais for a booked crossing today. They did get questioned along the route but had all the relevant papers for the crossing so were allowed passage no problem. Calais is operating a reduced service and the current information is that this will continue. The Brittany Ferries from Blibao and Santander are operating however I have heard only for freight, you will need to check this and if it is taking passengers, similar to Calais you MUST have in possession a booked ticket for the crossing. Good Luck !!

The last ferry from Santander is Saturday and every service from Brittany Ferries (All ports) is cancelled from that date until at least the 23rd March.

Calais is still currently running.

Staying here is always an individual choice, however, less people, fantastic health service, shops are generally now well stocked and the Spanish people seem to be resigned for a long haul. Its going to be the same everywhere, here seems to me to be a very good bet.

Good luck !

If it’s any help to you. I just drove up through Spain and France beginning on Tuesday morning to cross from Roscoff to Plymouth yesterday. Only issue was crossing into France about 6.45pm Tuesday evening after Macron’s midday announcement to close borders. I had to wait to be taken thru the Tunnel Du Somport on the N330- N134 after Jaca. The tunnel itself is the border so was taken thru following a border police vehicle in convoy of about 15 vehicles after a 20min wait. Was then straight into France. The French border police were doing the same to traffic on their end but we had already been cleared. It could be a lot tighter now. Roads very quiet driving thru Spain & Crance but no food at all to be bought anywhere unless supermarkets so bring plenty with you. Big difference in Plymouth as I was eating Cod & chips 20 mins after docking. Motorway stops open in the UK and Wales but limited number of businesses open. W H Smith & Costa Coffee etc. That ferry yesterday to Plymouth was the last Brittany Running there for the foreseeable future. Also was confined to cabin for the 6 hr trip with noting on the ship open.

We drove back to the UK on Thursday last week with no problems. We had booked a ferry but Brittany Ferries said all ferries were cancelled until 12 April so drove all the way.  Motorways were deserted which was eery.
