Hi.  We have just brought an apartment in San Miguel, in fact last Monday 18th February.  we were informed at the notary office that we would be responsible for cleaning the apartment foyer, stairs and landings once every four weeks, but what they didn't tell us was that it's our turn this week and we are in the UK and not coming back until April !!!!!  We therefore need to find a cleaner who would be willing to do this for us every four weeks and possibly manage/clean our apartment when we're not there.  Does anybody know of a cleaner in the village, preferably English speaking?  Thank you, Jason and Kathleen.

Hi Kathleen, whatever you do, make sure the person you use is registered as self-employed (Autonomo) and insured otherwise you will be fined if caught and it sounds as if you can do without any more nasty surprises. I expect the estate agent was ever so friendly and helpful when gushing about the apartment and wouldn´t risk losing their hefty fee by mentioning this, ditto abogado. If only until you can make other arrangements, I would suggest googling for key holding and change over service companies.

This is not a holiday let it’s our home and not on an urbanisation. Just a block of four.

It doesn´t matter if it's a holiday let, or not, for your own peace of mind, you need to use someone who is registered for tax otherwise you will be fined if you are caught using black market labour and public liability insurance is crucial for the type of work they will be doing in case, for example, someone slips on wet floors. I suggested a change-over company for the short term as they will have everything in place.
