Hi everyone

We bought a house in the El Galan area of San Miguel de Salinas, moved in beginning of this year and haven't received any mail yet other than a water statement!

It's not the utilities as we have set up direct debit and everything's done on line.

Friends and family have send several cards etc......none of which we have received ??

We have fitted a post box on the outside of our wall ...

I was thinking of calling in at the post office in San Miguel to ask ( hoping they spk English)!!

Thought I'd try the Forum first to see if anyone has any ideas?

Appreciate any suggestions!

Many thanks Karen

Hi Karen, unfortunately in Spain, it doesn't quite work like that. In the UK, you can have a fancy postbox on your wall, gate etc, and the post will arrive. In Spain, the post is normally delivered to a yellow box, containing many post boxes inside, at the start of main estates etc. It has Correos In big blue letters on the front. You have to pay 40€ for a key, one for the main door, and one for your post box (this is what I paid around 3 years ago), and you get that from the local Correos (post office).

Remember also, the number for your post box isn't necessarily going to be the same number as your home. So be sure to put the correct number for correspondence.

For example, my address is Camino Viejo de Albox, 20. My post box is 42, and my catastral number is 71... That's Spain for you!

Hope this helps Karen.

Hi Karen,

We live in El Galan too, have been here for 10 years now. It's true you won't get post delivered, the best thing is to go to the Correos in San Miguel and get a post box, as they only keep mail for 2 weeks behind the counter then send it back. Whereas with a post box it will be in there until you open it

And in San Miguel is a lady in the postoffice who does speak a little bit English. She helped us as well, she usually is in in the morning. Postbox itselves costs €73,00 per year.

Hi Karen

Hope you are well.  You have the answers so all cool.  To confirm when I lived in El Galan I had a post box in the Correos in San Miguel de Salinas.  (well I shared actually)

Instead of going through the village go on the main road on the outside and when you see Masymass Supermarket turn right and at the top of that road you will see the Correos (Post Office).

All the best - Gilly

There definitely isn't a mailbox in the street and we're not on a community.

Thanks for your help.
