Hi all, I hope everybody has weathered the turbulence involved in working round lockdowns, quarantines and flight cancellations recently. Poor old Jet2 have had a really tough time, and after showing more generosity and forbearance than the other two contenders.

We had our flights back to Scotland cancelled twice last month by the latter, and ended up having to fall back on the operator we have only been using as a last resort. They might just end up being the sole survivor of current affairs.

It is really eerie to travel on these planes with as few as 30 passengers aboard, not to say worrying, for the crews who don't know when the axe might fall.

Anyway, I have just been presented with a quandary by one of the big three flight operators, and would appreciate some feedback from my compañeros on CBF.

Which might be the safer choice of compensation for cancelled flights ?

1. Cash refund-  2 or 3 months to wait, at least, but paid as a lump sum, or

2. Refund voucher- immediate and valid till end of 2021, used a bit at a time.

Pros & Cons of course,

HELP!!

Regards

Ray

Hi Ray,

I guess it depends on a number of factors:

* Easyjet vouchers can only be used against one future transaction, where Ryanair can be used against multiple

* Transferring the existing booking to a later date without charge can also be an option, but watch out for higher flights costs

* if you still plan to travel in the near future, check flight costs as they may be cheaper than the original booking. So if you can wait for the refund this might be a good option

For the record we've just completed option 3 on our flights for Sept/Oct after Easyjet cancelled our outbound flight when they introduced their winter schedule early. Nett saving ~£150; result!

I had two flights cancelled, 1 in March to Alicante and then rebooked for April with Ryanair, both eventually cancelled and I applied for a refund a few weeks later , waited until august for my refund , I should have taken the voucher as we booked again in May , this was cancelled and up to today we havnt received this refund , if they offer me a voucher I will take it as I travel regularly to beni

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I did go for the charge back route in the end as fed up of Ryanair taking the Michael "o'leary".

Matter of principle in the end.

HI fellow Santa Poleros,

Good news, I got my Ryanair refunds, and they are real, not a dream, already booked more flights using some of the credit.

If I don't use all of my credit up within 12 months they allegedly will send me the balance in cash, fingers crossed.

I take back all I said about Ryanair in the past, they may have evolved into something better.

best wishes

Ray
