I don’t rent mine, Joe.  I’m loathe to rent out as I’ve done that before and a lot of people have little respect for your place, deliberately damaging or even stealing things.

Of course now, I’d need a licence for short term rentals and not sure I have time nor patience. I plan to move out permanently after New year when Australian summer starts waning.

Dlrsantapola,

I first went to Santa Pola back in ‘89 as my ex sister in law had a family holiday home there (she had Spanish family). I can’t remember much about it!  But my parents have had a home out there for probably 20 years or so and say it’s not changed much. They have seen the modernization ...

...along the marina take place and getting spruced up here and there.

But the locals have been very accepting of them over the years & they still talk to my mum even though her Spanish is still limited lol  Some even came to my fathers funeral a few weeks back, which we were not expecting at all.

And they sure like a chat even though you barely grasp what they are saying ! Lol

Very community minded little place !

Yes agree! I should of mentioned about the marina only been few years old !!glad we all like it there  so much

Hi

I would property search in Santa Pola given the choice.

Gran Alacant has changed dramatically in the last few years with ongoing building and expansion of urbanisations and a hotel in the process of being built. Dependent upon what your looking for Santa Pola is more traditionally Spanish with narrow streets and a lovely promenade hosting restaurants and lovely marina.

Especially during the holiday season, Gran Alacant is known for regular burglaries and five have taken place in the last few weeks alone.

In our opinion, Santa Pola is by far the better of the two locations you are wanting advice on.

Two hotels in Santa pola, hotel palomar in the centre,  and hotel gran playa 15 min walk from main town.  Our house is right near gran playa hotel and we find this perfect for us , 5 min walk to beach and just nicely away from the center , people say it's a bit of a walk but we personally  dont mind a little stroll !!

Hi we bought in Santa pola two year ago.   It is stunning.  Very Spanish!  We are from Scotland and still learning language.  Not good yet at all but we will keep trying !     It is very beautiful and everyone been helpful and friendly.   Our neighbor speaks English and has been very good helping us.    I would Santa Pola a very good choice!   GO FOR IT!      Alex and Laura
