Dear Reader,

I asked the reception officer in the Centro de Salud where I could find the terms and conditions of their  health insurance I pay for. It is NOT a private health insurance. it is the SIP INNS related health insurance. They showed that empty glance..and did not know.

Does anybody where i could find those Terms and Conditions, if possiuble in engish?

Regards,

Ronald

Are you talking about  Convenio Especial?

If so it gives you access to care the same as any Spanish with the exception of free or subsidised medicines which you have to pay for in full unless prescribed when in hospital.

There is no public health "insurance". The Constitution grants a health care service w/o any cost for qualified beneficiaries. Consequently there are no "conditions" and everything is laid out in the "Ley General de la Seguridad Social"

Hi Killjoy,O, realy: no insurance: Why do i pay premium? Around 130 euros a month?

Could you explain, cause I do not understand.

I would like to know what I am entitled to.

For instance like: Is this insurance for any use abroad? (I give that a small chance, but with the same kind of insurance

in my country of birth you can stay insured for 8 months a year abroad without needing a travel insurance.

But I would also like to know what i am entitled for in Spain.

Because if you ask them, usualy the officers don´t know or entitle you only to the rules that are convenient to them or or are in harmony with there gutfeeling or mood.

Hi Chsarley, I guess i am talking about that but I was asking for the Terms and Conditions. What IS Convenio Especial?

I like to know what I am entitled to like how many free fysiotherapy, eye examinations, things like that.

Convenio Especial is a way for those eligible to buy their way into the state health care system, it costs €60/mth up to age 65 then €157/mth thereafter.

If you're in it then you must have applied so I'm not sure how you can be uncertain about if you are or not?

As I said it's equivalent to the state system except for the cost of medications so all the services you mention - and more - are available to you just as if you were a Spanish national BUT your state appointed doctor must refer you for them.

I can't list what's available, I doubt anybody can, but as for T&C's they are no more likely to exist than they would be for the NHS.

If you're in the system you're
entitled to whatever treatment is available or deemed necessary by the system.

OK, well I am a bit familiar with the NHS, but I am dutch, so I compare this system with dutch non private healthinsurances.

I would like to know if the spanish health  system pays for health care  when you are out of Europe, luke the dutch healt insurance. (I doubt if this would be the case, but Ilike  to be sure about this

And I would like to know the details of this health system.

Untill now I understand that doctor and the system decide whether I get a treatment. What if I disgree?(I was a  Master at Law, that is one of the reasons I like to know about this), Ronald

I am resident in Spain and I pay premium for this spanish system from out of  the Netherlands. I went to INNS and brought my S1 form there.

As stated by previous members, the Convenio Especial is s not a private health insurance; the payments entitle you to use the Spanish Health Care system. If you disagree with your doctor’s diagnosis and treatment, you are perfectly free to elect to pay privately for other opinions and treatment.

Optical tests and dental treatment are both private here; although conditions requiring hospital treatment, ie cataracts, would be available through the health care system.

Should you require treatment outside Europe, you should really buy travel insurance including medical cover. This assumes you are taking a holiday , should you be working elsewhere, then presumably your employer would arrange this, or if self employed you would arrange cover yourself.
